This is why we cant have nice things

This is long, buckle up!  So I just watched “People we meet on vacation”.

Adorable movie!  I know it was based on a book and people who read it had mixed feelings.  But overall it was a cute movie with fun characters, funny moments, and a decent story.

My annoyance comes from the trope of Best Friends to Lovers. I get it…I know that happens.  And people are always like “ruin the friendship”. “Best friends make the best husbands/wives”.  “Don’t live with regrets”.

I hate all of this.  Not because I don’t believe you shouldn’t be besties with your sig other but because this thought process damages the actual PLATONIC opposite sex friendships.  The stigma in everyone’s head is “well boys and girls cant be friends because they will hook up”

Girls wont trust a girl bestie with their husband and guys wont trust a guy bestie with their wives.  Jealousy happens, accusations happen, and friendships are ruined.  I’ve lost numerous male friends because their girlfriends or wives were convinced we were either hooking up or going to at some point.  Like no ma’am, we have been friends for 20+ years we aren’t like that.

But these movies show the end of committed relationships so the “friends” can be together.  I think the issue comes in that people don’t know the difference between romantic love feelings and platonic love feelings.  I love my friends but I don’t LOVE them that way.  Does that make sense??

Yea yea sometimes it’s unrequited love or whatever but maturity also plays a part.  thinking you “love” someone but they love you like a friend you have a choice to make.  Keep perusing them and lose the friendship or remember WHY you are friends in the first place and preserve that.

Maybe I am wired different but I can look at my guy friends and be like they are attractive and I love them without being like let’s hook up.  I love their companionship more than anything.  We are all happily married and want our spouses to be friends.

Like get out of your hormones and be a f**king adult.  Or better yet encourage your kids to be friends with everyone.  If you son has a girl bestie don’t be like “oooooooo your girlfriend, ooooooo kissy kissy” and same if your daughter has a guy bestie.  We are the problem.  We put that stigma on them before they even understand sexual relationships.

My point is I had a guy bestie…since Kindergarten!  We literally stayed friends through college.  Was I his date to a couple dances when he didn’t have a GF, yes. Was he mine when I didn’t have a BF, yes. But we were JUST FRIENDS.  No flirting, no hanky panky, none of that.  We had so much fun because were were literally just really good friends.

In college my VERY jealous boyfriend thought for sure I was cheating on him with my friend.  Then he met him…and was like “wait I like this dude”.  EXACTLY!  He is a nice guy and not a threat to you my dear.

But alas life happened.  We took a pic at graduation and soon his fiancĂ© didn’t want us to be friends.  She gave him an ultimatum.  I wouldn’t expect him to choose me.  I was a little hurt but I am used to it by now.

But what if we as a society didn’t put that stigma on KIDS.  What if we didn’t beat it into people that if you don’t have the same genitalia friendship is impossible??? What if we let them organically be friends and if things went to romance whatever but if they didn’t it is OKAY to just be f**king friends!!!!

I love my friends, male/female/non-binary/whatever!!  I don’t care what you have/don’t have in your pants or who you are attracted to.  If we click we click.  I can have a deep emotional bond with someone without it being sexual!!!!!!!!!!

I think this also goes back to the saying “emotional affairs”. That term gets thrown around a lot!  Because if you have a connection with anyone except your sig other and they happen to be of the opposite sex it seems to always be deemed an emotional affair.  Here’s the thing…stop doing that!

An emotional affair means you are seeking attention affection outside of a committed relationship because you are not getting what you need from it. Yea don’t do that!  Talk with your person.  Don’t use another to get what they aren’t giving in your relationship. Either work on the ship or end it.

But Texting/hanging out with someone because you have common interests and are FRIENDS is not a f**king emotional affair.  If you went out with the girls would anyone say anything?!?! NO! So stop with the stigma.  Now if you are hiding something, bad on you.

But I for one am tired of people being like “Oh you hung out with another guy?!?!?!  What would your husband think?!?!”  Listen judgy McJudgerson 1. He is fully aware of where I am and who I am with. 2. He knows this person also. 3. YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!

Now I am not texting/calling these people at all hours of the night and nothing inappropriate.  I treat them like one of my girlfriends and they treat me like one of the guys.  I just wish as a society we could recognize that this is normal and not some scandalous thing that will result in the Friends becoming an item….

Rant over…I just want to not lose my friends because of this bull$hit!

You have no power over me!

Am I the only one who may have caved when Jareth said "I ask for so little. Just fear me. Love me. Do as I ask, and I shall be your slave."

Gah, I love that movie!  Maybe its because its part of my childhood (I was like 5 when it came out!) or maybe because its Jim Henson but whatever the reason its one of my favs.

I know I know I seem to have a lot of those but this movie and a few others really shaped a whole generation.

There aren't many 30 somethings that haven't seen at least one of these....

The Labyrinth

The Dark Crystal

The Neverending Story

clearly there are MANY MANY more that I can list from the 80's but these three.  These three were "kids" movies.  Have you seen these movies?!?!!?  These are NOT kids movies. But they were.

At a young age we were dipped in death, disappointment, pain, etc.  Today these movies wouldn't make it past the sample crowds.  Parents would never purposefully expose their kids to these situations.

For God's sake I am over 35 and I still cry when Artax gives up in the Swamp of Sadness!!!

Also, who didn't want to be friends with Hoggle and Ludo and Didymus!  Who didn't want a Luck Dragon?!?!?  Who didn't want a Goblin King willing to give them the world but wouldn't sacrifice their baby brother?!?!!? Wait......

I can't say much about the Dark Crystal because what else can I say.  It was f**king DARK but I've seen it a million times.  I can quote it.  Its...its part of my childhood...its...its part of me.

"Another world, another time, in the age of wonder. A thousand years ago, this land was green and good - until the Crystal cracked. For a single piece was lost; a shard of the Crystal. Then strife began, and two new races appeared: the cruel Skeksis, the gentle Mystics."

The 80's was a strange time but it was my time.  I was a kid of the 80's.  I had cabbage patch and rainbow bright. I watched Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow.  I've seen all these movies countless times, and now I want to binge them all again.

So off I go to find my ancient copy of The Labyrinth.  Because while I know...I KNOW I can find it online, I am going old f**king school tonight.  My dusty @$$ VCR up in a forgotten closet is doing its duty tonight and letting me watch Jareth and Sarah, like I did the 1st time........on VHS!

Stop laughing!!!

Somethings just stick with you...like herpes

I kid I kid...but really...don't play with herpes, that is the gift that keeps on giving.  I don't know that personally but I have friends and they...well they regret somethings.  Moving on!

I love movies, right?  Right!  I have a soft spot of sci-fi and fantasy, right?  Right!

With that said I can't believe how much I still without a doubt absolutely LOVE the original Jurassic Park.  The music, the special effects, the acting, the f**king dinosaurs!  That movie...THAT MOVIE is one of my all time favs.

The new one is coming out soon and I am sure I will like it a lot but nothing...NOTHING will ever compare to the original.

When I hear the music, I get chills!

This scene slays me every time! I can hear the roar in my mind!

Its so real.  In that moment, sitting in a dark theater in 1993, suddenly dinosaurs were alive again.  It stoked the embers of my imagination...it was amazing!  And still, today when I watch this movie I get chills.  Its so real.  Everything is so real.  Its so believable that a lot of times I dream about dinosaurs afterwards.

Granted its usually me trying to escape raptors but its cool...right?  My point is this movie stands the test of time.  It set a standard and will forever be one of my all time favorite movies.

F**KING CHILLS MAN!

Not to mention Jeff Goldblum...What is it about him in this movie ...DAMN SON!

"Life...uh...finds a way."

Clever girl...
Damn, I love this movie!

30 years?!?! Still one of my favs!

AHHHH I forgot to post this....oooops

So apparently one of my fav/go to girly movies turned 30 (what?!?!).

Yes I am that girl...sometimes.  I was a toddler when this movie came out, so I never saw it on the big screen...just on VHS and in recent years regular cable TV. Of COURSE when they said limited re-release in theaters I jumped all over that!

I have always loved this movie and the soundtrack.  I had the tapes when I was a kid and the CD as a teen.  I have seen the movie so many times I can recite 98% of it verbatim.  Oh and I know ALL of the dances because what dancer that grew up in the 80's/90's doesn't know ALL THE FREAKING DANCES from this movie?!?!?

Moving on, seeing on the big screen with my buddies was so nostalgic!  God, I still LOVE this movie soooooo much.  Its cheesy AF but makes me so happy!!!

But after watching it in all its not made for TV glory I realized something.  I should have NEVER seen this movie as a kid.  Holy $hit its a bit risque.  I mean I probably didn't understand half of it but I saw it for the first time around when I was 8 or 9.  What was my momma thinking *hysterical cackling*?!?!

But we watched it because I was OBSESSED with the soundtrack just like everyone else.  Mainly because I was a tiny dancer and my dancing school did a whole show around this theme.  I was in a number to "Do you Love me" and did a duet to "Wipe Out" which were in the movie but I don't think they were on my tapes and my cousin was in one for "The time of my Life".  It was Dirty Dancing mania!!!

I mean how...

...can....

You not....

...absolutely....

...LOVE...
this f**king movie?!?!!?!?

Squeeeeeeee *sigh*

I fangirled so hard my husband "threatened" me

It wasn't intentional (clearly).....I usually keep myself fairly contained. But last night after doing a theater check I went home to veg on my couch.  I try REALLY hard to keep up with what's coming out/new to TV, Movies, & Music but sometimes I totally miss $hit and its really amusing for those around me.

Apparently there is a new King Kong movie coming out.  I vaguely remember hearing about it last year but didn't remember much detail...maybe a preview showing a gigantic gorilla in mist or something but no cast that I recalled.  I was a bit excited, I love weird movies and King Kong is definitely one of those weird stories.  An overgrown ape on a remote island being investigated by humans, good stuff...right up my ally.

So anyway, the new trailer came on last night while I was finishing my paperwork.  My husband had already seen it so he was looking at me waiting for the reaction (he's so smart)

I heard a voice I recognized so I looked up and said "that sounds like John Goodm...."
Flash of Kong

A glimpse of the away team (haha)"wait...was that Tom Hiddleston...?",

I was getting excited because I truly like him as an actor (and might have a minuscule celeb crush).
Then they showed f**king Samuel L. Jackson and I freaked out.  I love love love love him.

So at this point I am fangirling pretty hard going "OMG, omg omg omg....I have to see this! It has Sam Jackson and Tom Hiddleston...bonus John Goodman..." *Eeeeeeee* *clapping* *bouncing while sitting*
I hear in the most deadpan voice... "alright weirdo, calm down before I get the hose".

Oh........haha......kay.......*kisses*.

And I somehow missed that there was a panel at SDCC with the whole cast (ooops)...I was a bad nerd last year and totally didn't keep up with what happened there.  What the hell else did I miss?!?!?!?

Ahhhhhhhh! Stop being so attractive, adorable, smart...gah!

Let's play a game...who am I talking about?!?!  No really.  I am not a person who is obsessed with celebs.  I mean I appreciate talents and notice attractiveness but I usually don't follow people.  Well, I'll follow them on Twitter/Instagram/Snapchat but mainly because they are fun/funny (see John Barrowman)...not really to get a peak into their lives, well not always (see John Barrowman accidentally showing his hubby's manly parts in a live FB feed).  Although half the time I'm not sure if its actually them or some paid assistant who is posting.

Weeeeeell some you can tell its them *ahem* Mr. Padalecki *ahem*.  Anyways, there are many who don't use social media and honestly I don't blame them...SOME PEOPLE ARE LEGIT CRAZY!  So we don't really get a glimpse of them outside of the TV Shows/Movies they are in.  Then you see an interview and OMG STOP IT!  Either way these stupidly attractive/talented people make me realize I want (need) to do more in life.  I mean I am not talented in that respect BUT I want to travel...ALOT...soooooo reach for the stars and such...right? *big cheesy smile*.

Moving on...stop driving us all insane with your adorableness!!!  Gah!  You can't be talented...and hot...and NICE...and intelligent...that just isn't fair.
So who am I talking about...hmmmm"I'll never teeeeeelll" *weird squiggly air finger*
SIDE NOTE - Great movie...I need to watch it again.  I still can't believe she died...*tear*

SIDE SIDE NOTE - I am not just referring a person...or just men...I have some lady crushes...still not telling!

SIDE SIDE SIDE NOTE - I really feel like if I met some of them, I'd become a sudden mute.  I never used to be like this!!!  Is this what happens with age?!?!?  F**k that....

Johnny 5 is that you?!?!?!

Number 5...is ALIVE!!!!!
Yea yea yea I know there were other "OMG the machine is 'alive' now" movies *ahem* "Chappy" *ahem* but this is my nostalgia.  I absolutely ADORE Johnny Five.  He was part of my childhood.

No I am not just having a flash back.  I saw an "article"...shocking, I know.

"A robot capable of thinking for itself is set to be scrapped after it escaped from a high-tech lab for a second time."

Wait...WHAT?!?  Its escaping?!?!  It wants to be FREEEEEEEEEEEEE!

"They say that despite reprogramming it twice, the robot continues to attempt to escape and they are now considering scrapping it. The other robots which have been created from the same series are well-behaved, and have not been escaping, say the team."

Y'AAAAAALL!!!!  This is basically the plot of Short Circuit!!!  He isn't like the other robots and wants to be free.
Please tell me the lead scientist looks like this!!!!
Dang it, the robo looks more like Eve (Wall-E) but they should TOTALLY call him Johnny 5!!!!!
No disassemble...Number 5...is...ALIVE...

I love how they nonchalantly throw this in there...
"In Austria a cleaning robot reportedly 'committed suicide' by switching itself on, and climbing on to a kitchen hotplate where it was burned to death."

What the actual f**k?!?!  How dirty was that house that the cleaning robot decided to end it all...?

Yes yes yes yes its being reported by a British Tabloid.  But come on this is FUNNY!  Plus if I learned anything from Men in Black...the Tabloids usually get it right!  *hahahaha*
Side Note - I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!

Jaws V: The low hanging fruit

Everyone is all like "So cool!" or "I need this for summer!" or "We could use this in the lake!" and I'm over here like "Do you want your @$$ literally bitten off?  Because that's how you get your @$$ bitten off!"  If you want to buy one have fun...I'll watch from the shore or in a boat.

Has no one seen Jaws?!?!?!  Murky water...people dangling just above it looking like easy targets...a skiff thing.  Come on!  This is basically what happens in Jaws II!!! They go out on these flimsy sail boats and Jaws says "b**ch, I'ma eat that" and everyone dies.

Okay not everyone but a lot of them!  And Chief Brody is no longer with us so who the hell is gonna save us and tell that mean ol' shark to open wide?!?!? Huh?  Huh?!?
Ignore the caption!
"All right, you big bastard! Come On! I've got something for ya' now! That's it! Attaboy, come on! Right over here! Open wide OPEN WIDE! SAY AAH!
*electricity noise* *sizzling shark* *oh $hit that b**ch is on fire* *BBQ Shark sinking*
"Yay!  We are saved!" *sobbing*

Okay soooooooooooooooooooo maybe I've seen Jaws too many times (like there is such a thing!) but I'd rather err on the side of caution, than see this comin' up to bite my @$$!
And if you are like "but fresh water no sharks" see this postAND okay, fine no sharks...South Louisiana...meet this!
Yes I know that's a Croc BUT I couldn't find a moving gif of a Gator.  With that said I've SEEN a gator jump out the water up close and personal.  Action shot, ala me.
And that was just a "little" one!!! So no thanks, I'm good.  I'll hammock in a tree.

Just call me...f**k he doesn't have a NAME...only "The Narrator"...fine, call me...The...Narrator...

1st rule of Fight Club...well at least I'm not Tyler Durden...

So I came to an uncomfortable realization.  I think I use TV/Movies to express emotions that I don't normally..."express".  I mean I have emotions but some seem to come out more freely when entranced by a show...or a book...usually a show...occasionally a "short story" (not Fan Fiction) *uncomfortable laugh*.  They are my "meetings"
I know I know I know you are over there like:
But hear me out.  I get happy, I get sad, I get in-between...I prefer happy.  So I am ALWAYS "happy"...even when I should probably be sad.  But I don't like to be sad, so as much as I preach "its okay to cry"...I usually don't.  At least not in-front of others...rarely in-front of others.
The thing is I don't do it because I can't feel...I do it because I don't want to (do not Freud me...I know this isn't "normal")

I find that I find my release...my coping...my "its okay to cry" coming from fiction...crap!
I relate sad things in fiction to things that happen (or could happen) in my life or around me and have an emotional response.  I am am empathetic person.  If you are sad, I can relate and get sad...I just don't always fully project it until I am alone.

For example...watching the Series Finale of Lost Girl...not terribly sad but sad enough.  Tamsin f**king died after childbirth...that is a relatable thing...*level: tears*.  Her daughter grows up loved but without a mother...also relatable...*level: sobbing*.  Bo and the gang watch out for her...Bo says to her "I won't let you become a 'Lost Girl'..." JFC just rip my heart out people! *level: rocking in corner*
My point is it wasn't THAT sad to illicit the response(s) I had to it.  I find this happens with other shows/stories.  I wasn't a fan of Danny Pink on Doctor Who but I teared up when he died/sacrificed himself...don't even talk to me about Clara's death *level: don't f**king touch me*.  The parting of The Doctor and Rose...RELATABLE...*level: snot bubble*.  I could also just say...Vincent Van Gogh *level: silent ugly sobs*.  The series finale of House (dammit House!!!) *level: laughing through tears*.  Or...Allegiant (the book) *level: denial...why is my face wet, its not sad...she isn't DEAD* Hmmm, maybe I just don't like endings...the finality of things.

Crap, now I'm Freud-ing myself.
No worries, I am not developing a split personality.  I will not have a Tyler Durden side that creates a club where we beat the $hit out of each other just to "feel".  But I do have a feeling I am not alone...others are probably similar.  I don't know why we do it (and I'm not gonna analyze that, EVER) but it works for me so why change it.

Shut up Tyler!
