Most people will say life gives them Lemons at some point in their life, and the common response is "Make Lemonade". Well I want to say I am tired of making lemonade! Why can't life give me a better 'fruit'? I hope you can learn something or at least be amused by some of the off the wall things that happen in my life. I will also post random product reviews, movie reviews, book reviews, etc...I am a random person and like to keep all my lemons in one place.

Winter is here
And its freaking hilarious. Y'all try not to make fun of us Southerners, we don't know how to function in Ice/Sleet/Snow.
Apparently some polar vortex thing is dipping low low low low.
Sorry sorry sorry. Back to my thought. Okay soooooooo most of SE LA and S MS is going to get a blast of frigid air along with rain. Which means Ice/Sleet/Snow mix...yay! I'm staying f**k in! People can't drive in normal weather much less ice.
Yes we are shutting down like half the state. Yes there is a "winter weather advisory". Yes we are preparing for "snow". Stop laughing! We are lucky if it gets in the 50's for Christmas so getting anything resembling snow makes people panicky.
Just kidding, I hate the FREEZING cold but I think the craziness for some possible snow if f**king funny. I mean better safe than sorry but

You made me sound like uncultured swine, not cool man...!
Okay so I get all kinds of calls on my phone...it is the nature of my job. And as I've stated before because of the weird way our office phones forward to our cell phones it always looks like I am getting calls from across the world.
So my phone rang and it said Warrington, England. I answered...clearly its one of those weird forward situations. I said "This is NOLA Gurl" and a ridiculously proper English accent responded. I almost dropped my phone. Alright, whose f**king with me today?!? So I pulled the phone away from my ear and realized it was not a forwarded call. Then I hear, "hello....hello...Miss???" in a very concerned English accent. Right...okay brain start working!
Me: Hi.......
Caller: Hello Ms NOLA Gurl, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
Me: Hi.....................
Caller: I'm Thomas from *insert company I created an account for yesterday*
Me: Oh, oh *giggle* hello.
Caller: Yes, well I couldn't help but notice you created two items on our platform but never completed the order. One appears to be for your American holiday of Thanksgiving and the other a wonderfully creative Christmas item.
Me: Uh huh....
Caller: Well you see, I would like to inquire if there was an issue with the platform that caused you to not wish to continue.
Me: Oh, no no, it worked great. I just need approval before I continue.
Caller: Oh, splendid! Well then, would it be beneficial to you if forwarded you additional information related to our products to get to your higher ups?
Me: Yea, sure that would be wonderful
Caller: *verifying my email* *pronounces my insanely ridiculous French last name perfect on the first try* Is that correct?
Me: *jaw drop*
Caller: Miss?
Me: Yes, yes that. Um yes, that is correct.
Caller: Splendid, well Ms. *pronounces my last name perfectly again* it has been an immense pleasure speaking with you. Please do not hesitate to contact me should a question arise when placing your order.
Me: Yes, thank....thank you.

Imagine getting a call from Tom Hiddleston...that's really all I could think after he said his name was Thomas! Stupid nerd brain being stupid.
W.T.F. just happened?!?! How did I end up on the phone sounding like a moron with someone from England?!!?!? And who says splendid?!?!? So I went check the website I was on and sure enough they are based out of the U.K. I didn't even realize it! Not that it matters. It is a digital product I was looking into, I was just culture shocked I guess.
Look I work in Louisiana...9 times out of 10 I am on the phone with some Cajun who speaks in Southern/Cajun speak. Ya know bastardized English....so I was caught a bit off guard. And NO ONE, I mean NO ONE who doesn't know me personally has EVER pronounced my last name correctly on the first try...without stuttering...that just shorted out my brain *ugh* I am such a goober!
Side Note - He called me at 3:00PM my time...that's what....9:00PM their time. He was waaaaaay too chipper to be working at a call center at 9:00PM!!!

What you mean I talk funny...?
In all my 30 odd years I have NEVER thought I had an accent. Apparently I do but it isn't necessarily "Southern" and it isn't necessarily "Yat" but something mixed. If you don't know what "Yat" is...well it is a way we speak in the NOLA area. Its abrasive and most of it makes no sense unless you are from down here. I KNOW there are a bazillion lists of "Words only New Orleanians know" or "Southern Slang" or whatever but in my profession I speak to quite a few peeps from out of town and now I am making my own list (if you don't like it, bite me).
What brought this on? Well I went to the store and my husband said "Are you making groceries?" to which I replied "Yes" without a second thought. He said "the fact that you didn't even flinch at that terminology baffles me." That is just what we say. I was brought up hearing that so it doesn't seem odd to me. Its not like he's from Canada or something...he's from 60 Miles north of NOLA!!!
So here is my list of $hit I say because I from NOLA/Louisiana: (don't shoot me if I spelled it "wrong". There are like a million ways to spell some of dem. Also, different areas have different meanings for some...this is what they mean where I come from)
1.) Makin' Groceries - It means I am grocery shopping or going grocery shopping.
2.) K&B Purple - It's a color that we can only apply to this particular local drug store chain that sold out to Rite Aid like 20 years ago.
3.) Down the Bayou - South, usually anything South of Hwy 90. i.e. Lafourche/Terrebonne/etc. Parishes
4.) Up the Bayou - Please don't make me explain that
5.) Going to The Island - Grand Isle, its all we got, shooosh
6.) Tha Parish - St. Bernard (Chalmette)
7.) Neutral Ground - It's not a median!
8.) Streetcar - It's not a Trolly!

10.) A Storm - What most others call a Hurricane i.e. "There's a storm in the Gulf"
11.) The devil's beating his wife - Its raining while the sun is out
12.) Cockroach - A palmetto bug (bug who shall not be named), they effing fly!!!

17.) Chouchoot - Thingy...usually an unidentifiable thingy...usually said when I can't remember the name of something.
18.) Bebette - a critter...something scary...a small monster...thing
19.) Dressed - This is something for Po-boys/Burgers/Sandwiches...basically its asking or stating you want Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles and Mayo

24.) Peeshnick - like a pinch or flick
25.) Qui C'est q'ca? - What's that?
26.) Toc-toc - Also, known as Popcorn for you uninteresting people *wink*
27.) Trinity - Not the religious thing...this is for cooking (celery, onions and bell pepper)

Sweet Tea. . .it's a Southern Thang
Weeeeeell it's a US thing. I knew this...I mean I've read online (everything you read online is fact) in various places how outside of our little Freedom Bubble people don't really do the cold tea thing. I laughed hysterically at this post when I saw it the first time because, OMG it's hilarious!
Anyways, I've never really put much thought to it outside of the randomness online. I am an avid iced tea drinker...well I drink hot tea too but usually in winter or when I am sick...look I live in the devil's armpit, hot tea doesn't mix well with 90+ degrees and 100% humidity. I barely drink hot coffee in the summer and that is only in the morning when I need a caffeine jolt.
(and why did this seem like an appropriate pic?!?)
That being said, pouring a cup of sweet ICED tea at a restaurant is not something I'd think twice about....until recently. I was at one of those serve your own drinks type places (not fast food). There was a few of us at the counter and I was pouring some Iced Tea when I heard someone mumble "bloody Americans ruining tea" in an impressive British accent...and by impressive I mean sexy...yep I said that, say something!

Myself and the girl next to me glanced over at this stupidly attractive young-ish guy, he winked at us and walked off. "I...what just happened?!?!" Neither of us responded at first...then we looked at each other and started giggling.
My thoughts...was he really British or just messing with us? How old was he because he looked REALLY young (not that I can talk)? Why did he feel the need to comment on the tea??? Was that his way of flirting with one or both of us (not that I am interested)??? Ahhhh now I need to know! I was near a college campus so he totally could be a grad student...or even a professor...maybe...which when I was in college we had A LOT of foreign professors in various subjects.
So I guess now I know first hand (maybe, probably not) that we ARE considered a bunch of weirdos for drinking cold tea...who knew?!?
